Starting the conversation through Mental Health First Aiders

15 Sep 2022

Mental health and wellbeing affects us all, everyone will at one stage experience a struggle and as an employer, OSB Group recognise this and we’ve pledged to constantly evolve to support our colleagues with the help they need.

Jointly run by Mental Health First Aid England and OSB Group Head of People Development, Richard Barrett, 11 staff volunteers have now come forward to volunteer to become Mental Health First Aiders and support their colleagues at OSB Group.

These colleagues were provided with a learning framework to help them to listen without judgement and signpost available support via both professional and charitable organisations.

The course also covers the importance of family and friends support networks to a person’s mental health journey, as they can be hugely beneficial to someone’s road to recovery.

OSB Group CEO, Andy Golding, fully supports health and wellbeing initiatives at OSB Group.

“Mental health is a critical issue and one that I personally feel quite passionate about. If we can make a difference, even to just one or two people through this scheme, then that's a big win if it means we've helped direct them to the right professional support."

Courses are ongoing at OSB Group and led by our People Development team, an initiative championed by OSB Group’s Head of People Development, Richard Barrett.

“Not only are our mental health first aiders helping colleagues within the business, our Kent Reliance branch colleagues have also used the training to help our customers and it’s a great opportunity to highlight the help provided by our volunteers.”

OSB Group continually look for ways to support colleagues with their health and wellbeing, this includes the dedicated ‘wellness hub’ on the intranet which all employees can access and includes; mindfulness, yoga, employee health plans, in-house webinars and more.
